11 Years of Make in India: A Boost to Economic Strength

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated 11 years of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, emphasizing its pivotal role in enhancing the Indian economy and fostering self-reliance across various sectors. The Prime Minister highlighted this accomplishment during his address at the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show-2025.

“It is gladdening to see how 11 Years of Make in India has contributed to furthering economic strength and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta. It has encouraged innovation and job creation across sectors,” PM Modi posted on X.

Launched on the same day 11 years ago, the ‘Make in India’ initiative aimed to accelerate India’s growth by harnessing the country’s robust entrepreneurial spirit. Prime Minister Modi stated, “Make in India has given an impetus to India’s entrepreneurs, thus creating a global impact.”

During his address, the Prime Minister called for a renewed focus on boosting indigenous production, insisting that the government remains committed to supporting all stakeholders involved. He called for a strong push towards a ‘Swadeshi’ economy in India’s future endeavors.

“The government is putting a strong emphasis on Make in India manufacturing. We want everything from chip to ship to be manufactured in India; for this, we are focusing on your ease of doing business. The government abolished more than 40,000 compliances, and more than a thousand laws were decriminalised. We are standing with you shoulder-to-shoulder,” PM Modi elaborated.

As the nation marks this significant milestone, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal echoed the Prime Minister’s sentiments, commending the government for its achievements in indigenous defence production. “The world is a witness to India’s defence manufacturing strength today! Guided by the vision of PM Narendra Modi, the nation has scripted landmark achievements in indigenous defence production, reflecting the success of the Make in India initiative,” Goyal remarked on X.

The event coincided with India successfully launching the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile from a rail-based Mobile launcher system. This missile, capable of reaching distances up to 2,000 km, adds another feather to India’s defence accomplishments. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended congratulations to the agencies involved in this crucial launch.

As the initiative continues to evolve, its impact on innovation, job creation, and the overall economic landscape remains significant. Many industry experts believe that ‘Make in India’ will serve as a catalyst in India’s journey towards becoming a manufacturing powerhouse on the global stage.
