Manoj Sinha has ordered a thorough and impartial magisterial inquiry into the recent encounter incident in Arhama area of Ganderbal district, where a civilian lost his life earlier this week.
According to officials, the inquiry will examine all aspects and circumstances surrounding the April 1 encounter to establish the facts and ensure accountability. The move comes amid growing concerns over the killing of a local resident, Raashid Ahmad Mughal, during the operation.
In a statement shared on X, the Lieutenant Governor said the probe would be comprehensive and aimed at ensuring justice. “I have ordered a thorough and impartial magisterial inquiry into the Arhama, Ganderbal incident. The inquiry will examine all aspects related to the incident and ensure that justice is served,” he said.
Authorities have directed that the inquiry be completed within a stipulated timeframe, with the final report to be submitted to the Home Department for further action.
The incident, which took place in Arhama village, has drawn attention across the region, with calls for clarity on the circumstances that led to the civilian’s death.
