SSP Ganderbal refutes reports of Amarnath pilgrim’s death due to landslide

GANDERBAL, JULY 17: Amid the widespread buzzing reports of death of Amarnath pilgrim owing to landslide and shooting stones, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal has refuted the claims, citing that no pilgrim has lost life as it was the minor landslide that occurred at Rail Pathri along the Amarnath Yatra track.

“No pilgrim has lost life owing to landslide,” SSP Poswal claimed.

He added that the landslide at Rail Pathri was minor, however a video filmed from close range made it more horrific.”

SSP Poswal has apprised that in the wake of incessant rain showers for over the past two days, the Amarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended from both Baltal and Pahalgam routes to ensure safety of pilgrims.

It is learnt that the BRO swiftly deployed men and machinery to ensure hassle-free pilgrimage for the yatris.

While shedding light over the death of pilgrim, he said, “Death of woman pilgrim was unrelated to the landslide as she was hit by stone on way to shrine and it was unfortunate and separate incident.”
