Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced on Monday that the Bihar Assembly elections will occur in two phases, scheduled for November 6 and 11. The counting of votes will occur on November 14, with the entire election process concluding by November 16.
During a press conference, Kumar referred to the upcoming Bihar polls as the “mother of all elections”, highlighting the need for transparency and smooth execution across all paired constituencies. This affirmation underscores the significance of exercise integrity during the electoral process.
The Election Commission’s timetable reveals that 121 Assembly constituencies will participate in the first phase on November 6. The second phase will see 122 constituencies cast their votes on November 11.
“It is mandatory to complete counting of postal ballots before the last two rounds of counting of votes,” Kumar stated, ensuring the procedural integrity of the electoral system.
Important dates surrounding nominations delineate the preparations for the voting process. For the first phase, candidates must file their nominations by October 17, with scrutiny scheduled for October 18. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is on October 20.
In relation to the second phase, nomination deadlines offer candidates an additional opportunity. The last date for filing nominations will fall on October 20. Scrutiny will occur on October 21, followed by the window for withdrawal, ending on October 23.
The current term of the Bihar Legislative Assembly will conclude on November 22, necessitating these elections to fill the ensuing vacancy.
Bihar’s political landscape consists of 243 Assembly constituencies, featuring two reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and 38 reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC), ensuring representation for varied demographic sections.
