Doda Police announced the successful resolution of a motorcycle theft case within 48 hours of receiving the complaint, leading to the arrest of two suspects involved. The operation illustrates the commitment of local law enforcement to combat crime swiftly.
Doda’s Police Station Assar received a complaint from Omair Ullah Wani on November 5, 2025, about his motorcycle (registration number JK06A-6107) missing from the Jathi area. Following the report, police registered FIR No. 37/2025 under Section 302(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, initiating an immediate investigation.
SSP Doda Shri Sandeep Mehta (JKPS) directed the formation of a special investigative team led by PSI Shivam Dev Singh, supported by DySP DAR Doda and the SHO of Police Station Assar. The team acted quickly, detaining two suspects in the early hours of November 6, 2025.
During questioning, the detained individuals confessed to stealing the motorcycle during the night of October 26, 2025. The police recovered the vehicle from their possession. The apprehended suspects were identified as:
- Mohd Tariq @ Baffer, S/o Mohd Aslam, R/o Bhagtha, Katra, District Reasi — a habitual offender and absconder.
- Munish Kumar, S/o Mansa Ram, R/o Bali Chanalra Bhalesa, District Doda.
Police investigations revealed that Mohd Tariq @ Baffer had a criminal history with multiple FIRs lodged against him across various districts and states, including serious crimes related to theft and drug offenses.
The long list of charges against him includes thefts under the IPC and NDPS Act, evidencing a career marked by criminal activities. His record shows 18 FIRs, highlighting his evasion from law enforcement.
The Doda Police emphasized their determined efforts to pursue habitual offenders like Tariq, who transmit fear in local communities through their actions. Chief among the police’s commitments is a focus on public safety and swift responses to combat crime effectively.
