The 10th day of Muharram, marking Ashura and the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his 72 companions, was observed with deep religious reverence across Jammu and Kargil today.
In Jammu, a grand procession was taken out from Peer Mitha under the banner of Anjuman-e-Imamia to commemorate the sacrifices at Karbala.
Mourners from different regions participated in large numbers. The procession followed its traditional route and culminated at Karbala Complex, Wazarat Road.
A brief Majlis was delivered by Molana Ali Asgar Haidery from Mumbai, highlighting the importance of Ashura. The final Majlis Sham-e-Ghariban was also addressed by him.
A separate procession from New Plot, organised by Anjuman-e-Haidery under Abdul Sameer Qureshi, merged with the main gathering at Imam Bargah Sofi Shah.
A symbolic Shabihey Zuljinah was also taken out. People of other faiths too participated to pay tribute and seek blessings.
Syed Amanat Shah, president of Anjuman-e-Imamia, said Ashura reminds us of the stand Imam Hussain took against tyranny for the protection of Islam.
General Secretary Prof Sujat Khan stressed the day’s message of resisting oppression and supporting the oppressed.
The ten-day mourning was organised under the supervision of Syed Ayaz Hussain Naqvi.
The Anjuman also thanked various organisations, participants and the media for their support and discipline.
In Kargil, Ashura processions were held under the banners of Jamiat-ul-Ulama Isna Asharia and Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust.
Thousands of mourners gathered in Kargil town and nearby villages.
The processions passed through designated routes and concluded with sermons at Hussaini Park and Inqilab Manzil, where scholars spoke on the spiritual lessons of Karbala.
The processions were peaceful and well-managed with help from volunteers, scouts, and local administration.
Medical camps and refreshment stalls were also set up along the routes. The day concluded with Majlis-e-Aza held at multiple locations across the region.
