First-Ever Thrombolysis for Stroke Performed at GMC Doda

Doda, Nov 2: In a major medical breakthrough for the Chenab Valley, the Government Medical College (GMC) Doda has successfully performed its first-ever thrombolysis procedure on a stroke patient — a moment being hailed as a turning point in the region’s emergency healthcare services.

The procedure was carried out under the guidance of Principal Dr. Rakesh Bahl and Head of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Amir Hussain Parray, marking the first time that such an advanced, time-sensitive treatment has been administered locally.

The patient, Roshan Lal, son of Devisar from village Dolli in Gundna tehsil, was rushed to GMC Doda with classic stroke symptoms. He was immediately evaluated and treated by the Medicine Department team led by Dr. Govinder Kumar (MD Medicine), assisted by Dr. Divyanshu (Resident Doctor) and Dr. Momin (Intern). The team received strong technical and logistical support from Mr. Rajinder Singh, Mr. Arif Mir, and the nursing staff.

Doctors said the patient responded well to the thrombolytic therapy and is now recovering steadily.

Until now, patients suffering from acute stroke in Doda and adjoining areas had to be referred to GMC Jammu or other higher centres, often losing critical time during transfer. The successful procedure at GMC Doda now means patients can receive world-class stroke management right here in the district.

Dr. Bahl congratulated the team, calling it “a landmark achievement for GMC Doda and a reassurance for thousands of people in remote areas who can now access advanced treatment without delay.”

Dr. Parray echoed the sentiment, saying, “This success reflects our team’s growing capabilities and commitment to emergency medicine. It’s not just a medical achievement — it’s a ray of hope for the entire Chenab region.”

The event has drawn wide appreciation from the local community, as it represents a significant step toward strengthening rural healthcare infrastructure and saving lives within the golden hour of stroke onset.
