GMC Doda Achieves First-Ever Thrombolysis for Stroke

Doda, November 2: Government Medical College (GMC) Doda achieved a significant medical milestone by successfully conducting its first-ever thrombolysis for stroke on a patient. This groundbreaking procedure represents a huge leap in the region’s emergency healthcare services.

The procedure was conducted under the expert guidance of Principal Dr. Rakesh Bahl and Head of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Amir Hussain Parray. The event marks the first instance of advanced, time-sensitive treatment being administered locally in the Chenab Valley.

The patient, Roshan Lal, from the village of Dolli in Gundna tehsil, presented typical stroke symptoms and was rushed to GMC Doda. The prompt evaluation and treatment were carried out by the dedicated Medicine Department team led by Dr. Govinder Kumar (MD Medicine). He was assisted by Dr. Divyanshu (Resident Doctor) and Dr. Momin (Intern). The exceptional efforts of Mr. Rajinder Singh, Mr. Arif Mir, and the nursing staff provided crucial technical and logistical support during the procedure.

Doctors confirmed that the patient responded positively to the thrombolytic therapy and is gradually recovering.

Previously, acute stroke patients in Doda and nearby regions faced challenges, as they had to be transferred to GMC Jammu or other higher medical centers. This often resulted in critical delays. The ability to provide thrombolysis at GMC Doda means that patients can now receive world-class stroke management in their own district.

Dr. Bahl expressed pride in the achievement, noting it as a landmark moment for GMC Doda and reassurance for remote area residents. Patients now have access to advanced treatment without the distressing wait for transfer.

Dr. Parray congratulated the whole team, stating, “This success reflects our team’s growing capabilities and commitment to emergency medicine. It’s a ray of hope for the entire Chenab region.”

The milestone has garnered widespread praise from the local community, reflecting a significant step toward strengthening rural healthcare infrastructure. This achievement holds immense importance in saving lives during the critical golden hour following stroke onset.
