The Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Competition for All Age Group (AAG) Girls commenced today at the University of Jammu. Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), District Jammu, the event features vigorous participation from approximately 300 girl athletes representing various schools.
The opening day of the competition buzzed with excitement as participants competed fervently in several track and field events. The atmosphere brimmed with the spirit of youth, strength, and talent as the athletes showcased their abilities.
Within the discus throw events, notable performances emerged, with Sweety Devi (Zone Marh) clinching gold in the U-19 category. She was closely followed by Konika Chib (Zone RS Pura) winning silver, and Renu (Zone Bishnah) securing bronze. Additionally, Nidhi Verma (Zone Satwari) took home gold in the U-17 division, while Kiran Kumari (Zone Bhalwal) and Nirjala (Zone Bishnah) achieved silver and bronze, respectively. In the U-14 category, Subhana (Zone Satwari) earned the top spot, followed by Sonakshi (Zone Miran Sahib) and Mansi (Zone Akhnoor).
The competition continued to thrill spectators during the 100m races, where Damanpreet (Zone Bishnah) won gold in the U-14 group. Nishta Sharma (Zone Jammu) excelled in the U-17 category, while Shivani (Zone Jammu) triumphed in the U-19 division.
In another highlight, Sahiba Choudhary (Zone Dansal) emerged victorious in the U-14 400m event. Meanwhile, Nishta Sharma (Zone Jammu) displayed dominance once again, winning the U-17 race.
The 300m race showcased both speed and endurance, with Mehak (Zone Jammu) taking gold in the U-19 category and Sonia Choudhary (Zone Dansal) winning in U-17.
The high jump events spotlighted exceptional athletes such as Shriya Bhagat (U-14, Zone Chowki Choura), Rohika Devi (U-17, Zone Chowki Choura), and Payal Kumari (U-19, Zone Chowki Choura), all of whom secured gold medals with impressive jumps.
The appreciation for the athletes came from DYSSO Jammu and various technical officials, including Nirmal Singh, Chamel Singh, Sarabjeet Singh, Vijay Sharma, and Harsimran Singh, who presented medals to top performers. They praised the winners and encouraged all participants to embrace values of dedication, discipline, team spirit, and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
This event not only provides a platform for these young athletes to shine but also promotes the overall physical fitness and sporting spirit among girls within the community.
