JULY 16: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has given a go-ahead to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for 20 new battalions in Jammu and Kashmir.
It is learnt that this will add over 20,000 personnel for deployment in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, the CRPF had asked for the approval for 35 battalions, but the Government has sanctioned 20 as an immediate measure, after the April 22 Pahalgam carnage and subsequent ‘Operation Sindoor’.
Ministry of Finance has given a green signal to the proposal, and Union Cabinet approval is expected at the earliest.
As per the reports, the new battalions will be heavily equipped with enhanced operational capabilities.
Additional CRPF personnel are expected to be deployed across the UT soon to play an imperative part in assisting local police in law and order and anti-terror operations.
