Jammu, 26th September 2025 — The National Commission for Women (NCW), led by Hon’ble Chairperson Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar, organized the Mahila Jan Sunwai (Rashtriya Mahila Ayog-Apke Dwar) in Jammu, focusing on on-the-spot redressal of women’s grievances. The outreach event occurred today to foster direct engagement with citizens and provide quick resolutions for women’s issues.
The initiative encouraged numerous complainants to present their grievances directly to the NCW representatives, marking a significant advancement in promoting women’s rights and safety in the region. The Commission efficiently resolved multiple complaints on-site, ensuring immediate relief and guidance for affected individuals. This engagement showcased NCW’s commitment to accessible and responsive mechanisms for justice and support for women.
Smt. Rahatkar commended the cooperative efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, highlighting their essential role in facilitating the event. This collaboration is crucial for building trust between law enforcement and the community, particularly in addressing women’s safety and grievances.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Jammu, Sh. Shiv Kumar, expressed his gratitude to the NCW for selecting Jammu as the venue for this important outreach initiative. He emphasized that such programs enhance institutional responsiveness and foster community relationships, crucial for maintaining public safety.
The Mahila Jan Sunwai represents a pivotal step toward cultivating a more trusting relationship between citizens and law enforcement agencies regarding women’s safety and dignity. In conjunction with the event, a PowerPoint presentation delivered by the DIG and district administration outlined safety measures and existing facilities available for women, alongside statistics on crime prevention and detection efforts against women.
Following the Sunwai, a review meeting convened senior police and district administrative officers. During this session, the Commission delivered crucial guidelines and directives aimed at improving current safety plans and emphasized the necessity of organizing future seminars and programs explicitly focused on women’s safety and security.
The collaborative efforts witnessed at the Mahila Jan Sunwai provide a framework for future initiatives aimed at improving women’s conditions and ensuring their grievances are heard and addressed swiftly.
