In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir police seized over one kilogram of charas and apprehended two suspected drug peddlers during separate operations in Shopian and Budgam districts on Monday. This latest action underscores the ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace in the region.
Acting on credible information, officers from Police Station Zainapora launched a targeted operation that led them to the residence of a local man. The authorities registered FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act, obtaining a search warrant from the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Shopian.
A police team, under the direction of the Station House Officer (SHO) Zainapora and assisted by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, conducted a comprehensive search at the address of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, son of Sanaullah Sheikh, residing in Humhuna Nagbal. During this extensive search, officers recovered one kilogram of a charas-like substance along with a grinder machine allegedly used for processing the narcotics.
“The accused is currently absconding, and police are intensifying efforts to apprehend him,” a police spokesperson remarked.
In a parallel operation, another police team from Police Post Wachi acted upon information and set up a checkpoint in Naghard Wachi. During the interception, the officers detained Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh. Hassan Sheikh from Pombia Kulgam, who was found in possession of 101 grams of charas-like substance. Consequently, FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Zainapora.
Meanwhile, across the district line in Budgam, the police continued their vigilant operations against drug peddling. Officers conducting routine naka checking at Checkpora Kralpora apprehended a man identified as Moomin Qadir Dhobi, son of Gh. Qadir Dhobi of Dharambugh Kralpora. He was discovered carrying 112 grams of charas-like substance.
This incident led to the registration of FIR No. 173/2025 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Chadoora. Authorities have initiated further investigations to unravel any larger networks connected to these drug activities.
The rise in drug-related arrests highlights the ongoing concerns regarding substance abuse in Jammu and Kashmir. With a steady number of operations being conducted, police emphasize their commitment to eradicating narcotics from the society, aiming for a safer environment for all.
