Priyanka Gandhi Opposes Election Commission’s Voter List Revision

On Wednesday, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra firmly opposed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists proposed by the Election Commission (EC) in Kerala, echoing her party’s stance both inside and outside Parliament. Her statements came during a two-day visit to her Wayanad constituency, where she actively voiced her concerns regarding the integrity of the voting process.

Priyanka accused the EC of leveraging the SIR mechanism as a tool to manipulate the electoral rolls, stating, “The Election Commission is planning to carry out the SIR of voter lists in many states, including Kerala, and we will strongly oppose it.”

She recalled the previous implementation of the SIR process in Bihar, saying, “Given how they have executed it in Bihar, we have fought against it in Parliament and outside it. We will continue to fight against it everywhere.” Priyanka’s remarks highlight her resolve to safeguard democratic values, particularly in light of what she describes as potential electoral fraud.

Describing the SIR exercise as “the only way of committing fraud and cheating in the election,” Priyanka emphasized that such tactics undermine democracy itself. “If that is what they are going to do in every state, then it is an affront to democracy, and we have to fight it,” she asserted firmly.

Earlier in the day, Priyanka inaugurated the newly constructed Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Government Ayurveda Dispensary building in Ernad, Malappuram district, a part of her constituency. This initiative underscores her commitment to enhancing healthcare facilities in the region.

Arriving at Karipur airport in the morning, she made her way to Wayanad by road, where she is scheduled to inaugurate various development projects during her visit, according to party sources.

As the political atmosphere intensifies ahead of upcoming elections, Priyanka Gandhi’s stance against the SIR process raises significant discussions regarding electoral reforms and democratic processes. Her commitment to oppose the Election Commission’s approach is indicative of the Congress party’s broader strategy to engage with voter concerns and uphold electoral integrity.
