Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized the importance of character building, or ‘vyakti nirman’, during the RSS’s centenary celebration at the Vijayadashami event in Nagpur on Thursday. He firmly rejected suggestions for the RSS to engage in politics, reinforcing its commitment to social transformation through moral guidance.
Addressing a large gathering of swayamsevaks, Bhagwat reflected on the organization’s rich 100-year history. He noted that despite repeated invitations to participate in the political sphere, the RSS has chosen to focus solely on its core mission of character building.
“Reforms must happen gradually within our global order to avoid any catastrophic consequences,” Bhagwat stated, asserting that India can become a leader by presenting a development model grounded in dharma. This philosophy goes beyond ritual and tradition, connecting individuals to the larger societal fabric.
The RSS chief explained how social change depends on living examples of integrity and selflessness. He highlighted the Sangh’s ongoing initiatives through its shakhas, which aim to instill these values in communities across India.
Bhagwat called ‘vyakti nirman’ the cornerstone for sustainable social progress, deriving insights from the shared experiences of swayamsevaks over the years. He pointed out that India’s remarkable diversity—encompassing multiple languages, religions, and lifestyles—should be seen as a strength rather than a division.
“All communities, regardless of their religious affiliations, form a part of the intricate Indian identity,” he asserted. This sentiment echoes a call for harmony and mutual respect, essential in today’s society. Bhagwat condemned any form of violence and urged society, especially the youth, to be vigilant against hooliganism and communal discord.
“Law enforcement must act impartially,” he said, imploring authorities to maintain peace and order. Bhagwat encouraged the youth to organize themselves proactively, ready to support a peaceful coexistence in their communities.
Through his speech, Bhagwat outlined the RSS’s vision for the future. He reiterated the need to foster an inclusive society where each individual values integrity and contributes to social unity. The centenary celebration thus served not only as a reflection of the RSS’s past but also as a call to action for its vision of India moving forward.
