Sakeena Itoo Inaugurates Annual Sports Meet-2025 at GMC Srinagar

Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today inaugurated the Annual Sports Meet-2025 at the Boys Hostel playground of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar. This two-day event aims to enhance the physical and mental well-being of healthcare professionals through sports and recreational activities.

Addressing the enthusiastic gathering, Minister Itoo stated that the well-being of healthcare professionals directly influences the quality of healthcare delivery. She praised GMC Srinagar for taking the initiative to organize such an important event, highlighting that sports and recreational activities are critical for stress management. The minister asserted that these events not only promote physical fitness but also encourage bonding and teamwork among students.

Additionally, Itoo urged the GMC administration to upgrade facilities at the Boys Hostel playground. Improved amenities will encourage more students to participate in extracurricular activities and help cultivate a culture of health and wellness within the institution.

The meticulously planned Annual Sports Meet features a rich array of sporting events. Under the guidance of Chairman Sports Committee Dr. Salim Iqbal, the event includes popular sports such as cricket, volleyball, football, badminton, and table tennis. In addition to these competitive sports, participants will engage in traditional games like carrom, tug of war, musical chairs, and various track and field events, including 100m, 200m, 400m relays, shot put, javelin throw, and discus throw.

The inclusion of fun games such as the matka race, sack race, and spoon-and-egg race aims to add energy to the proceedings while fostering camaraderie among participants. This holistic approach underscores the significance of sports in holistic development, especially for students and professionals in the demanding medical field.

The occasion saw the presence of numerous distinguished guests, including Principal Dr. Iffat Hassan Shah, Administrator Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, alongside Heads of Departments, Medical Superintendents, faculty members, students, and staff members. Their participation reiterates the spirit of community and collaboration that defines GMC Srinagar.
