The Indian Railways announced plans to extend the Vande Bharat Express from Jammu to Srinagar to enhance regional connectivity. This extension aims to improve travel for residents, pilgrims, and tourists alike.
Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, confirmed the development, stating preparations are underway to facilitate this semi-high-speed service’s expansion. The extension suffered delays due to severe damage to railway tracks caused by recent floods and incessant rains.
“We are working on it. The delay occurred because of massive damage to tracks due to floods and heavy rains. But sooner or later, this service will be available to the people of Jammu,” Kumar said. He emphasized that restoration work is progressing rapidly, and the service will be launched once safety clearances are obtained.
Initially introduced earlier this year, the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat service significantly reduced travel time between the Kashmir Valley and the base camp of the revered Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. The planned extension to Jammu is anticipated to further enhance connectivity, benefiting commuters, pilgrims, and tourists.
Once operational, officials expect the Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat service to run daily. This development will provide improved travel comfort and shorten journey times compared to current rail and road services.
