Vishwakarma Day: Celebrating the Divine Architect with Devotion

Vishwakarma Day was celebrated today across Jammu with great devotion. Artisans, technical workers, and industrial staff observed the day by offering prayers to Lord Vishwakarma, the divine architect and creator of the universe, seeking blessings for safety, prosperity, and success.

The observance of a “no-work” day marks this occasion, as workers spend time cleaning, servicing, and worshipping their machines and tools. The belief persists that prayers to Lord Vishwakarma safeguard workers from accidents and enhance the prosperity of industries. This festival is traditionally celebrated the day after Diwali.

At the Vishwakarma Sabha Temple Complex in Bakshi Nagar, celebrations commenced with a Hawan and special prayers invoking blessings. Organised by the Vishwakarma Sabha, the event attracted numerous prominent figures, including Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma and MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta.

Other notable attendees included Kuldeep Raj Verma, former Vice Chairman (OBC), and Ramesh Angotra, among various Ex-Corporators and community leaders. The dignitaries reflected on the life of Lord Vishwakarma, dubbing him the “divine engineer,” an inspiration to craftsmen who build and create.

The leaders praised the essential role of technical workers in nation-building, stressing the need for unity and the welfare of the Vishwakarma community. The programme unfolded seamlessly under the leadership of Kuljeet Rai, Chairman of the Vishwakarma Sabha, and other distinguished members.

Celebrations at the Vishwakarma Temple in New Plots included a Hawan and Bhajan Kirtan directed by Mohinder Lal, President of the Temple Committee. Mohinder Lal emphasized the long-standing demand for declaring Vishwakarma Day as a Gazetted Holiday, stating, “Every worker observes an undeclared holiday on this day.”

Supporting this cause, Ramesh Angotra called on the government to acknowledge the cultural significance of Vishwakarma Day by officially designating it a public holiday. The discourse echoed the sentiments of many who believe that recognition of this day would underscore its importance in industrial and cultural contexts.

Later, attendees enjoyed a Langer (community feast) organised for devotees, which fostered a sense of community and fellowship among participants. Organizers, including Rattan Lal, Joginder Angotra, and Pappu Virdhi, worked diligently to ensure a fulfilling experience for everyone.
