Government to Provide 5-Marla Land to Flood-Affected Families

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced today that the Jammu and Kashmir government will allocate five marlas of land to each flood-affected family left homeless by recent natural disasters. This initiative aims to provide immediate relief to families devastated by landslides and flash floods that have destroyed their homes and livelihoods.

During his visit to Duggain, Billawar, where residents suffered greatly from the floods, Abdullah emphasized the government’s commitment to assisting those in dire need. He undertook an aerial survey of the affected areas, accompanied by MLA Bani, Dr. Rameshwar Singh, noting the widespread destruction caused throughout Jammu and Kashmir.

“The year 2025 has inflicted unimaginable damage across the region—from severe droughts to relentless rains and catastrophic flooding,” Abdullah stated. He remarked on the unprecedented scale of destruction, which has devastated over 350 bridges and approximately 2,000 km of roads while damaging thousands of hectares of agricultural land.

Highlighting the need for support, the Chief Minister has called for a comprehensive relief and rehabilitation package from the Central Government. He stressed, “Jammu and Kashmir needs urgent assistance to recover from these calamities.”

Abdullah explained that his visit aimed to assess the ground realities in hard-hit areas. His aerial survey included looking over Hiranagar and Lakhanpur, critical entry points into Jammu and Kashmir.

In a follow-up meeting with district officials, including Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma, the Chief Minister mandated the administration conduct extensive tours of affected locales to gather detailed reports on the damage.

MLA Bani, Dr. Rameshwar Singh also spoke about the severe impact of the floods in the Bani region, where landslides have obliterated homes and agricultural fields. He reported that nearly 100 families in villages like Moar, Najote, and Kanthal-Majra have entirely lost their land and property.

In his address, Singh urged the government to prioritize land allotment for flood-affected families and bring attention to other pressing issues, such as urgent repairs to the Jalana Bridge and delays in the tendering process for upgrading local schools.

The Chief Minister assured the residents that their demands would be taken seriously. He reiterated that the government will explore all possible avenues to provide necessary support to families struggling to recover from this disaster.
